ZIP Code Distance Calculator
The distance between two ZIP codes sounds like a narrow tool, but it has a surprising variety of uses: real estate research (how far is this property from that employer?), delivery zone planning (is this address within our service radius?), customer analysis (what's the average distance our customers travel?), and the classic "is this worth driving to" life decision-making tool.
Technically: ZIP codes are not points, they're areas. The distance we calculate is between the geographic centroids of the two ZIP code areas using the haversine formula, which accounts for Earth's curvature. This gives a straight-line distance — actual driving distance will be longer depending on road routes. For driving distance, use our travel time calculator.
For broader location tools: our ZIP radius map draws a visual radius around any ZIP code, and our address to ZIP tool converts a street address to its postal code.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work for Canadian postal codes or UK postcodes?
Currently US ZIP codes only. Geocoding for international postal codes is in development. For international distance calculation, use the coordinates from our reverse geocoding tool as reference points.
Why is the straight-line distance different from Google Maps?
Google Maps shows driving or walking distance along actual roads. Our tool shows the direct geographic distance (as the crow flies). These are fundamentally different measurements — use driving distance for actual journey planning.
